Does romance still exist?
If i said I still believe in it, would I be considered delusional?
What does a woman live for? As cliché as this will sound, we live for love, to love, and to be loved.
Ever since I was a little girly girl learning how to dance to classical music in tights and tutu, I dreamed of the day a prince would come and sweep me off my feet… but tell me, what comes next?
Once the person whom you believe to be “the one” does show up and snatch you away, is that the end? Is that when we wake up from a dream that we held so dear to heart all our lives?
You know, many say love is an emotional state which, as with fruits and milk, comes with an expiration date. This is where my inquisitive mind becomes excessively active: what happens when it expires?
As I sat and watched these well-dressed women come and go while what sounded like a romantic conversation between a man and a woman played in the background, I couldn’t help but contemplate what my life as a woman had become, and will become ten and twenty years down the road.
What is it that continues to motivate us to polish and refine our appearance, trying to defy the law of nature, holding onto our youth, our past, that which sometimes isn’t always a pleasant thing to participate in. Is love an emotion that comes and goes? Is it something that can be brought back if we tried really hard?
Or, are we living in a reality that we created for ourselves in which we believe that it indeed is something that will stay with us if we tried painfully hard?
Is love a mere mirage? Is romance?
Is it predictable; is it a dependent variable that is greatly affected by situational factors? Is it fleeting; is it a false reality..?
Tell me, when was the last time you were in love?
Or, are you in love?
How did or does that change your life?
What will you do if you sooner or later realize that it’s just a feeling that’s evanescent?
Romance: Expressive and pleasurable feeling from an emotional attraction towards another person associated with love.
Do logic and pragmatism override passion and emotion? What do you do when your mind and heart are in conflict?
Whatever the world says, I would like to believe that romance isn’t dead but very much alive; living and breathing with full of energy and passion… even if it’s just inside of my heart where no one can see it.
Because no matter what, as long as we remain as women, we will continue to seek beauty, to look better than yesterday… while we desperately try to hold onto yesterday, to ultimately… defy gravity.
As long as there is love…
life is, and will be in session.
