As soon as we said “good-bye” to the winter snow, autumn leaves in their signature shades of green, yellow, orange, and brown greeted us. Since we had a little over an hour to kill at the Montreux station, we decided to cross the street to explore the neighborhood a bit. We had no idea where we were, all we knew was that we were walking towards the water. It turns out that we were at the famous Lake Geneva, one of the largest lakes in Western Europe where Charlie Chaplin spent his final years. Extremely peaceful and beautiful, the town reminded us of La Jolla in San Diego.
After feasting on the most delicious Fondue ever (and of course, done right) on the night of our arrival in Switzerland at a restaurant popular among locals, per our wonderful B&B host’s advice (whom I highly recommended, by the way: look up Eric here and on Air BnB), we decided to take a train up to Rochers de Naye via Montreux. We only had one full day in Switzerland so we wanted to make the most of it by seeing the Alps, and this turned out to be the best option for us at the time since we were staying in Pully close to Lausanne, which is only about 30 minutes or less from Montreux. While everything about Switzerland is either picture-perfect if not heavenly, I was completely shocked at the extremely high cost of living; for instance, when we stopped by McDonalds to get some change, I couldn’t...
The day we visited the Versailles was also when we visited two other very important sites: The Notre Dame Cathedral and the Pompidou Museum by foot (!) …and I thought these padlock (aka love locks) things were a Korean thing, because the last time I saw them was at the N Tower in Seoul. Also thought these chestnuts were a Korean thing until I came across them multiple times on the random streets of Paris. Cool rings at an artsy store near the cathedral Man in red socks- cool; even cooler is that he can pull it off. Stylish Parisians in Le Marais Pompidou contemporary museum Hiding behind a giant mushroom View of the city from the museum Trust me- it was a fun-filled exciting day, but definitely a long one… my feet were quite upset with me toward the end of the day. haha
I’m not a fan of macaroons but Luduree’s are a whole different story A day spent at one of the largest palaces in the world mainly consisted of oohs and aahs, lots of them. I had heard of its beauty but did not expect it to make me speechless on multiple occasions, hence the major photo overload. I wish it wasn’t so cold though which meant that I had to bundle up yet again. As we were leaving, we both had one thing on our mind- that whoever lived there had a good life… a really, really good one. While I’m not all that into a bedroom covered in gold, I do plan on building a garden like this in my backyard some day.
Here are pictures from our last night in London which was spent mostly on eye shopping and people watching. Ran into this colorful couple with a distinctive style while roaming around the luxury department stores in the city center. Turns out they are designers who own a shop in Soho. We headed off to Portobello Market in Notting Hill the next morning which was also the day we were leaving for Paris. Notting Hill has to be one of our favorite places in London. It’s filled with pastel colored Victorian style houses and Justin’s favorite car, Mini. The cutest couple in London. I’ve literally been wearing this camel Muubaa jacket every single day for the past week or so. Just when I’m about to get sick of it, the weather reminds me that we belong together. Thanks to the 30-40 degree weather in London and Paris (also take into...
After realizing that we were an hour late for a train to Oxford, we spontaneously decided to roam the streets of London which actually turned out to be very interesting and productive. Our first stop was Oxford Circus which is filled with popular retail chains such as Zara, Topshop, H&M, River Island, Mark & Spencer. It’s funny to realize how oblivious one can become towards something she once felt passionate about depending on its accessibility. I used to be absolutely obsessed with anything Topshop as the only way I could purchase their merchandise was through the internet when I lived in California; however now that I see Topshop literally everywhere, I have absolutely no urge to even go into the store. I did briefly stop by today at the Knightsbridge location to look for legwarmers for my poor freezing ankles but came out not only with empty hands but...
