Rich and Famous

Rich and Famous

Near Itaewon which is widely known as the most multicultural, expat-friendly area of Seoul, there is a (extremely) wealthy, quiet neighborhood up on the hill looking down at Han River called UN Village. It is so private that only permitted visitors get to enter the area- actually not many locals even get to discover/explore it in first place. Only cars you will see are luxury European ones, and even so are tinted with the darkest film possible. This is where the Korea’s rich and famous reside, and we are talking about an apartment that cost 5 million US dollars- note that I said an apartment, not a house. ;O As the name suggests, this town once was reserved for UN employees and diplomats who get their housing paid by the organization they belong to. But things have changed these days, and it’s now being invaded by movie stars and...

Seoul Fashion Week Outfits

What I wore throughout the week, not necessarily in a chronological order: I’m one of those that have a love-hate relationship with hair. This was on one of the better days. Tan leather jacket by Muubaa also worn here, here, here, here, and here (lol can you tell that it’s my fave?!), paneled mini skirt by Elizabeth & James worn here, Hermes scarf worn here, and Pucci fringed clutch shown here in the past. Yes, the shoes. I know. They are EVERYTHING. Who else but Jeffrey Campbell? This was the first day. No outfit shots, actually photos of me are almost nonexistent. Kind of sad because I went all out with long gloves, striped wool sweater, sparkly mini dress, carrot orange beanie (also worn here and here), bright blue super high heels paired with Justin’s coat and all. In reality, I was just trying to find my way around the...

Lie Sang Bong: Passion, Dream, and Korea

Lie Sang Bong: Passion, Dream, and Korea

Only a few hours before our scheduled meeting, I found out that my mom was among Lie’s first customers when he had his first boutique in Myeongdong in the 80′s. When I mentioned this to the designer, he cheerfully replied, “Your mom must had been extremely stylish to have worn my clothes back then. There was a saying that a woman in Lie Sang Bong could be spotted even from far away.” Twenty years passed, and after a few moves within Seoul, Lie has settled in the cozy area near Coex in Gangnam, where a beautiful park is located across the street where he often takes a walk to unwind. As we walked into the boutique, we found him busy signing his newly published autobiography for some of the major Korean pop stars, this particular one for 2AM. Since receiving a signed copy at Seoul Fashion Week a few...

A Day in Black and White

A Day in Black and White

Often, an image is planted in the head… an image of me in an outfit… sometimes it’s very specific, sometimes nebulous. The former was the case this time, though the black tights didn’t come into the equation until last minute when I realized how chilly it was. On that note, what I noticed on my trip to California this time around is how difficult it is to dress weather-appropriately. As nonsensical as that sounds, California sun can be deceiving, making you think that it’s warmer than it actually is. It’s different from the winter chill in Seoul- at least in Seoul, I know it’s freezing and can dress accordingly. In LA, the bright sunlight and the peaceful sky make you believe that it’s summer all year long- the minute you enter your car, you feel the unbearable heat that makes it impossible to drive without the A/C on no matter...

Finding small pleasures in life

Finding small pleasures in life

Through the years, I’ve learned to appreciate and find happiness in little things in life. I was talking to someone the other day and realized that physical illness stems from what occurs inside, something people call “stress,” which got me thinking about the matter in relation to Psychology. ‎”Stress reduction is important, but the real value comes in the ability to step out of whatever reaction you’re having — which is usually habitual or automatic — so you can do something different”- Professor Hunter, assistant professor of practice at Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University People often wonder how having an advanced degree in Psychology has benefited me in different facets of my life. While it has proven to be directly related and applicable to the job itself (I’m in marketing), I must say that it’s helped me greatly in my social life as well as managing stress...

Breathing it in

Everything that’s LA, that is. Though I find it contradictory that I’m starting to miss Seoul. Make up your mind already, brain! ha. Just another day in Beverly Hills and man, life never felt so peaceful. Seriously obsessed with these holographic heels at the moment, just wish I can wear them 24/7 and not be in pain. Bouchon- finally got to try their famous quiche and mussels. Beautifully done, but since when did salad taste like ocean? Should’ve asked for dressing on the side. Totally forgot how much sodium people consume on a daily basis here. My bad. Fuchsia leather jacket from Korea, Olive green plaid shirt from Le Joli, Olive skinnies from Smile Market, H&M belt, Silver clutch by Calvin Klein, Cheap Monday sunnies, Jeffrey Campbell Don’t Care holographic heels, Silver/clear sneakers in last photo also by Jeffrey Campbell

You and I forever it just feels so right

You and I forever it just feels so right

In Vegas for a few work-related things at the moment and coincidentally, I’m wearing these same pair of camouflage skinny jeans again. Could it be that they are indeed an exceptional pair of skinnies that doesn’t make me want to scream after having a little too much for lunch, or  that they go with just about everything? How about that they are thick enough to be worn on colder days but also soft enough to sleep in? Whichever the case, it’s become official that they are among my favorites of the moment and yes, I certainly do discriminate when it comes to clothes: newer things come first, but if you also happen to be comfy on top of that, you are an instant winner which means you’d be spending considerable amount of time with me for the next few days, weeks, or even months. This sweater has proven to...

In a place most never see

Had less than ten minutes to get dressed and I find myself leaving the house in a dress-over-the pants look. Risky perhaps, but being adventurous is an inevitable yet most exciting part of being a fashion person (? not really a fan of being called a ‘blogger’- I know I’m weird). Without it, fun wouldn’t exist in fashion- and my mind thinks fashion=fun, so there. ;) Although, I don’t think I overdid it, fortunately. Could have been worse, you know. Weirdly, coincidentally, strangely, oddly. I’m in a black/white outfit again which was totally unplanned, I promise. H&M white button down & t-shirt, Smile Market Camouflage skinny pants, Vero Moda spangle dress from ASOS, Chanel 2.55, Cheap Monday cateye sunnies, Jeffrey Campbell Devandra cutout wedges that are super hot

Oh, how you make the world seem so perfect

Oh, how you make the world seem so perfect

I must had been away for too long to have forgotten that LA has winter too- or was I confusing it with Hawaii because my luggage was initially filled with summer stuff complete with denim shorts and super thin V-necks that I wore on a daily basis last summer in Seoul- oh, and don’t forget the bikinis. Yeah, what was I thinking? Well, surviving two extraordinarily chilly winters in Korea has trained me well, because now I know a thing or two about layering not just for styling but for functional purposes as well. But then again, shopping has helped ameliorate the situation quite a bit- sort of letting myself ‘go’ at the moment as I don’t need to worry about the sleeves being short here. By the way, this white sweater has become one of my favorites lately… and it’s not even mine. If you’ve been reading my...
