Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2013: Jardin de Chouette

Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2013: Jardin de Chouette

As the last show of the week at the main venue (IFC), Jardin de Chouette surely did not disappoint, especially with all the celebrities that stole the front row along with all that strict security and entrance policy (saw at least a bunch get rejected at the door because they lacked proper document). Justin (the photographer) did not hesitate let me know that the setup looked quite good, and I knew what he really meant was that the unfinished cement floor had been miraculously disappeared somehow over night and they had successfully planted “stars” as a backdrop that actually kind of looked like the real thing. Now, the most controversial discussion topic prior to the show (which began exactly 35 minutes past the scheduled time) was both how to correctly pronounce the brand name and what it meant. As someone who’s been to Paris twice, of course I knew...

Seoul Fashion Week: Yang’s by Hee Deuk

Seoul Fashion Week: Yang’s by Hee Deuk

With such concept as the “New Bohemian”, I guess I automatically (maybe mistakenly too) expected it to be somewhat less restrained… and that applies to both silhouettes and lines in general… but then again, interpretation of the term also depends on how you understand it in first place which is probably why Yang calls it “New”. On that note, my definition of “Bohemian” may differ from how you define it… so I’ll let you see for yourself, but what’s certain is that this collection was quite a departure from his last one where femininity was the keyword with red lips, floral prints, and evening dresses that emphasized feminine silhouette and glamour were aplenty. Pattern on pattern is a fun way to mix and match. Loved how delicate the metallic lace looked, and those uneven edges were definitely drool-worthy. Colored fur may be the next big thing for the upcoming...

Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2013: Paul & Alice

Waking up early without sufficient amount of sleep for six days is not only acceptable but certainly pays off when you reach the glorious moment of discovering yet another amazing designer from whom you are willing to open your wallet right then and there. There is no reason to even research the theme or inspiration of the collection when all you want is to find out where you can buy the pieces, which is exactly where I am right now. These pieces are so wearable yet come with enough edge to provide excitement- the kind that makes you want to go out in them, one that makes you want to sit in the most visible spot at the hottest cafe in town. It’s one of those moments when you feel proud to be wearing something awesome but even more great is that not many know about the brand, yet....

Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2013: Vack Yuunzung

Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2013: Vack Yuunzung

Inspired by artist Edvard Munch‘s Woman in Three Stages, Designer Pack (her full name is Pack, Yoon Jung) presented three different sub-themes based on the three main chronological stages of a woman’s life: a woman as an innocent young lady, a woman as a mature being who knows herself and is deeply loved for who she is, and lastly, her dark side that which “supposedly” comes with old age (according to Munch who is known to have suffered from psychological issues which influenced him to hold a rather depressing view on life- and this, I mention, because I do not necessarily agree with this perspective on aging.) On that note, her show started with young, lively, playful pieces representing the beauty of youth and innocence. As the show progressed, the silhouette and colors became richer and more feminine, representing naturally attained sophistication of a mature woman. One who has...

Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2013: Kwak Hyun Joo

Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2013: Kwak Hyun Joo

Where food meets fashion. In contrast to her last collection in which camouflage was the theme, designer says her inspiration for F/W came from her rather sudden realization about three basic human needs: Food, Clothes, and Shelter. Through a theme based on the word “Tasty”, Kwak seeks to decipher her curiosity towards the relationship between the three basic human needs, how they are intercorrelated and produce synergy when harmoniously put together. Her interest in food grew so great that it led her to open a restaurant near her showroom on Garosugil, showcasing fusion Italian with a Korean twist. Which is exactly what her F/W collection was about, trendy yet original, with full of flavor. Kind of crazy about this look at the moment… the colors, patterns, pocket and collar details along with a layered sheer skirt are right on the money. Check out Kwak Hyun Joo S/S 2013

Seoul Fashion Week: Celeb Sighting Part 2

Jia and Fei of Miss A at Lie Sang Bong. Later found Jia sitting next to Amber of f(x) in front row. Snapped a few pics but it’s literally impossible to get a decent one unless you are a experienced Korean press, so the ones we have are all blue… hence all photos borrowed from Korean media yet again.. ;) Ali whom I saw near the elevator before the show. She’s got flawless skin! It’s like porcelain… Jung Seok Won, singer Baek Ji Young‘s fiance. Min and Jia of Miss A at another show, Kye, where GD was also in attendance. Lee Hae Young at Jardin de Chouette whom I personally met when I used to model back in the States… Actress Kang Sora entering the show- another celebrity who was much prettier in person- or did she lose weight since the movie, “Sunny”? Lee Ha-nui (aka Honey Lee),...

Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2013: Jin Te Ok

This was one show for which we arrived a bit late so as you can see, Justin wasn’t able to get the best spot to shoot which made us hesitate quite a bit before deciding to do a post on it. After going through a few photos; however, we couldn’t help but proceed with editing because Jinteok is a brand that I fell in love with last season, thanks to her immaculate silhouettes, delicate details, and everything else that scream pristine. While I have yet to find out the price range, what’s most striking about Jinteok is despite its high quality pieces reminiscent of couture, all her pieces are totally wearable which at the same time is unique enough to show character. I’m in love with these midi skirts that sit right at the calves… not too tight, not too wide, but just about right. Paired with a sleeveless...

Seoul Fashion Week: Celeb Sighting Part 1

Thought it would be nice to take a break from the usual and talk about stars that we came across at SFW. Photo credit as shown in water mark (Celebrity photography is what Korean domestic press does best although I’m not quite sure how they do it considering the environment which isn’t all that great especially for domestics.Major kudos to Korean press!). Dasom & Bora from Sistar spotted at Steve J & Yoni P looking lovely in their S/S collection. In front row! Check out Bora’s mile-long-legs! @.@ Denim is a trend of the moment! G-Dragon (GD) from Big Bang, CL from 2NE1, and model Lee Soo Hyuk spotted at IFC for KYE. GD is in none other than Thom Browne and I think that’s Alexander Wang CL is wearing but I could be wrong. Now, onto the behind story… of how I pathetically missed out on this golden...

Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2013: Kiok

Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2013: Kiok

Inspired by her own workspace, Kiok continues to wow the crowd with her wit and creativity displayed through her trendy yet totally wearable collection and show production. Really, her show has got to be one of the most entertaining ever, with a live beat boxer incessantly (and passionately) performing in the background to replace the usual runway tracks and all. Definitely one of the shows I wish you were there to see and feel it all, even more so than her last one. Apparently, 212 is no longer just for yuppies in Manhattan. Brick prints. Yes, please. That over-sized pink blazer needs to enter my closet already, looking even cuter paired with a white mini trumpet hem dress. Super model Choi Sora rocking the runway in an amazing pink & white ensemble that seems to possess both femininity (slightly peplum waist & bell bottom /pleated slacks) and masculinity (sharp shoulders...
